KL Rahul: Star Indian cricket team wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul has been part of the Lucknow Super Giants since the 2022 IPL season. However, ahead of the start of IPL 2025, he has parted ways with the team. According to reports, mutual disagreements with the team owner led him to make this decision.
But now, this decision seems to be backfiring, as he will not be able to captain any team in the upcoming season.
KL Rahul Won’t Be Able to Captain
KL Rahul joined the Lucknow Super Giants in 2022 and has been leading the team since then. But he has now suddenly left the team. Reports suggest that Virat Kohli’s team RCB might bid for him and include him in their squad. However, he will not be given the captaincy, as Virat Kohli is expected to take on the captaincy role again.
Virat Kohli to Captain
It’s noteworthy that Virat Kohli stepped down from RCB’s captaincy after the IPL 2021 season. However, reports are now indicating that he is once again likely to return as captain. He is reportedly eager to lead the team again, with his ultimate goal being to win RCB their first trophy. So, even if KL Rahul joins this team, he would only play as a batsman.
However, there has not yet been any official confirmation regarding Virat Kohli taking over as captain, nor is it confirmed that KL Rahul will definitely join RCB. Several franchises currently need a new captain, so they might also make high bids to include Rahul in their squad.
Mohammad Bobat’s Statement
Recently, Mohammad Bobat mentioned that the management has not yet decided whether Virat Kohli will take up the captaincy or not. Bobat stated that RCB has kept their options open for now. So, it’s still uncertain whether Virat will be the captain or Rahul. But if Virat expresses his desire to lead, it is unlikely the franchise would refuse him.
